Surface potentials of right-handed, healthy adults (N=17), showing topographies for tonal and phonetic target stimuli for ElectroCap (30-channel) and Geodesic Sensor Net (128-channel and interpolated 30-channel) recordings. Note the lateralization of N2 (200-220 ms) and P3 (300-440 ms) to the right hemisphere for tonal targets, but to the left hemisphere for phonetic targets, which had been reported in a previous study (Kayser et al 1998). N1 and P3 are smaller, but N2 is greater for phonetic targets. Topographies are improved with higher spatial resolution. P3 amplitude is reduced with GSN recordings.
